Coloradské hory jsou jedním z nejhezčích míst, která jsem kdy ve světě navštívil, a tak jsem se moc těšil na svou čtvrtou účast na Světovém poháru, který hostí každoročně Vail. Tentokrát razím se Štěpánem, rychlovýpad jenom na závod. Přilétáme ve středu večer, bereme auto a frčíme kousek za Vail k jednomu z našich známých, který nám poskytuje útočiště a příjemnou společnost (bydlení ve Vailu je pekelně drahé). Ve čtvrtek razíme nejprve do skal, lehce se rozlézt, a pak klasika registrace a meeting.

V pátek snídaně á la Paul Robinson a jdeme na to. První boulder je mírná plotna, do zóny lehoučké a pak ustát velké koule, těmi se mi nedaří probaletit a tak zapisuji zónu. Dvojka je mírně převislá a hned na úvod je tam koordinační poskok, kdy je potřeba zastavit se špičkou nohy, nedaří se mi zkoordinovat a nula bodou. Trojka je asi nejtěžší boulder, velký převis, lezení nohama napřed a těžký finiš, padám v kroku do Topu, škoda - tady to bylo blízko. Čtyřka je další převislý profil, třetím pokusem s vypětím všech sil dávám Top. Poslední boulder už je lehčí, v mírném převisu, nedaří se mi dostatečně se vydýchat a zapisuji jenom zónu. Asi si příště koupíme kyslík jako někteří závodníci, přece jen je těch 2 000 m n.m. znát. Celkově mi to hází solidní 29. místo, kousek za postupem do semifinále.
Hradílek
Štěpán pěkně bojuje, leze ve stejné skupině jako já a se třemi zónami končí na 69. místě. Po zbytek výjezdu si užíváme celé Mountain Games, finále je velká show gradující vítězstvím domácí Alex Puccio.
Brothers Trip to Vail
The Colorado mountains are one of the most beautiful parts of the world I have ever been to, so I was really looking forward to my fourth trip to Vail to take part in the World Cup. This time I go with Štěpán and we plan just a short visit. We arrive on Wednesday evening, we take a car and drive to a friend of us who lives near Vail, to find a shelter and a nice company there (the accomodation in Vail is awfully expensive). On Thursday we go to the rocks first, we have a quick warm up and after that everything goes as usual - the registration and the meeting.
On Friday we have a breakfast á la Paul Robinson and then the competition begins. The first boulder is a slab, it's quite easy to get to the zone but then the round stuff comes and it's pretty hard to go on, so I only get to the zone. The second boulder is a slight ovehang and at the very beginning there is a coordination jump which I can't figure out. The third boulder is probably the most difficult one - a big overhang, climbing feet first and a super hard finish - I fall from the top move, too bad, I was so close. The fourth boulder is again an overhang, I reach the top at the third attempt, leaving there all the power I have. The last boulder is a bit easier, another overhang, but I can't breathe well and only reach the zone. Next time we'll probably buy some oxygen as some other competitors did. The 2000 meters above the sea level had their share of impact on our performance. In total I am 29th which is pretty good, I was close to pass to the semifinal.
Štěpán is climbing in the same group as I so, and fights bravely. He reaches three zones and ends 69th. For the rest of the trip we enjoy the whole Mountain Games, the final is a breathtaking show with amazing Alex Puccio as the winner.
