Maltatal - Bugeleisen 8B+

Teď rest, další trénink a pak... MAGIC WOOD!

Maltatal

After a hard half of the year full of training and competitions we finally got outdoors, to some quality rocks. Even though the weather forecast is far from ideal, we set off for Maltatal on Thursday. Before the World Cup in Meiringen I left behind a great line there - Bugeleisen 8B+ and I need to check it off from my list of unfinished climbs.

On Friday we warm up with some easy boulders, despite the hot weather I climb Unterlandem 8A and when it gets colder I go for Bugeleisen.

Bugeleisen is a super cool line with a 45° overhang, small but good ledges - no brainer, really, one just needs to be strong enough. My plan is to redo the moves and leave the serious attempts for the morning but the moves keep me only five minutes or so, so I start trying. I fall twice from the edge and once from someplace lower so I decide to save my fingers and energy for the morning.

The next day I wake up with the sun, it's pretty cold. I warm up with the upper part of the line, then I practice the beginning and as I have the first two moves already, I just keep climbing, struggle with the small ledges, then comes the edge and suddenly it's done. I didn't expect this! Great, this line is awesome and I am really happy about the climb.

I check the moves of the SD version for 8C/C+, but I need to work out more, this would be too much. I follow Kačka down the hill, she also climbs one of her projects, we are really productive today. In the afternoon we rest and we plan to check the Der Konige Tal sector where Chris Rauch made a new boulder The Source 8B+ recently, but we don't want to pay the 18,50 EUR toll as we aren't sure we can find the boulder.

So we go backreturn to the main sector instead, it's still quite hot, even after the sunset. I try several boulders with grade up to 8B, but the only one I finish is Agoge 8A+, an epic fix, lots of struggle, falls to nettles and exhaustion.

According to the forecast the Sunday will be rainy right form the beginning so we pack our stuff and go back home, even though we don't want to. Now we'll have some rest, a bit of training and then... MAGIC WOOD!
